THE ORIGINAL 8 TRICKS IN 52 SECONDS IS ONE OF CASPER'S MOST AMAZING PERFORMANCES. NOW ROXIO AND MICROSOFT CHALLENGED US TO TAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL. CASPER STEPPED UP WITH A SERIES OF CHALLENGING FEATS ALL RECORDED DONE IN A SINGLE SHOT. NO EDITS, NO COMPUTER EFFECTS, JUST PURE TALENT.
After being rained out one day and having neighbors threaten us with calling the cops the next, it felt like this would never happen. But Casper is a trooper and even though we ran him over with a truck, we still managed to get the shot.
The truth is this was only the second take. The hardest thing to do was string together the hat flip and the marshmallow catch. When we ran out of marshmallows — Casper decided to flip out. Literally the trick was changed to a back-flip and we managed to get two clean takes before the light was gone.
The neighbors in Venice were totally cool. Nobody hassled us. We had to stop a couple times to let the produce trucks through on their daily rounds, and to let a couple of grandmothers walk down the alley. We didn't want to run down anyone's grandma. That would have been bad karma.
What you don't see in the shot is how close we came to not having this in the can. And even in the final take things went crazy. Like a crew member running into the street basically throwing his life on the line to stop traffic for Casper to cross. That one little thing could have cost us the whole shoot.
